White Fillings

WHITE FILLINGS

Dental Fillings “fill in” areas of your tooth that have been damaged or broken. They ensure that the damage does not spread further and restore oral health, bite and reduces chances of infection.

They are an affordable choice of treatment which can last up to a good few years if taken proper care of.

Fillings being the least invasive restorative treatment, there are a wide variety of materials used for fillings. Dental fillings are tooth colored materials which are placed after removal of the decayed part of the tooth. White fillings blend in seamlessly with the color and luster of the natural tooth and hence are recommended by our dentists. You’ll be surprised to find that you can hardly differentiate between the restored tooth and your natural tooth.

How are white fillings placed?

A short and comfortable appointment at Studio Dentale will be booked in for your filling procedure. After the damaged part of the tooth is cleaned and removed, a special etching compound will be used to prepare the tooth.

Dental Etching paves the way for a strong bond between your tooth and the resin by creating small pores on the surface of enamel. so the composite resin can gain access to the surface of your tooth. The white filling is then artfully molded into the tooth structure building it up to its original position. After the resin is placed, a special blue light is used to set the fillings.

Benefits of White Fillings

Tooth-colored fillings are the number one choice of both dentists and patients for many reasons.

  • It Lowers the Risk of Tooth Sensitivity as resin used in white fillings does not transfer heat as quickly as metals. This is a problem with amalgam fillings and patients need to be extremely cautious in case of very hot food items.
  • It is safer than its metal counterparts as metals can leach into the mouth and blood and leave traces of mercury. White fillings are biocompatible in nature and have no  dangerous metals or chemicals
  • They are more stable than metal fillings as they do not expand or contract with changes in temperature or surroundings. There is also less wear and tear of resin fillings.
  • They look just like your natural teeth making the entire procedure cosmetic. The right shade is matched with the material to bring teeth like finish.
  • 1. Why white fillings are better?

White fillings come close to natural resemblance of your teeth making one less conscious of their smile which can sometimes be seen in case of silver amalgam fillings. White fillings are also bio compatible in nature and do not cause metal toxicity.

  • 2. Are white fillings as good as silver amalgam fillings?

White fillings are better in aesthetics and functions when compared to silver amalgam fillings. White fillings if taken good care of last long and can withstand hard biting forces as well.

  • 3. Is it worth replacing my amalgam fillings with white ones?

Our dental specialist can run an oral examination for you and decide if your fillings need to be replaced with new ones. If at all you need a replacement you can get white fillings in place after discussing with our team.

  • 4. What are white fillings made of?

Tooth colored fillings are a mix of glass, resin and other ingredients to help strengthen and hold the cement in place. All the materials used are bio compatible in nature and cause no harm to the body.

  • 5. What are the alternatives to fillings?
